Learn about diamonds

MORE INFORMATION

This extraordinary gem is developed 3 Billion years ago, deep in the interior of the earth (perhaps 80km or even more) under pressure, and under a heat of 1100-1300 °C. By eruption in the craters it arrived with the emerging Kimberlit up to the earth's surface. There are a lot of Diamond-Mines all over the World. The 80% comes from South-Africa, Angola, Namibia, Botswana, Zaire and Russia. More than 250 tons ore must be blown up in order to win a carat of diamond. Only 20% of all promoted diamonds are suitable for decoration purposes. From gemological regard the diamond is the King. The hardest of all substances, is the subject of many faiths and legends. As a symbol of innocence, justice, faith and strength, the diamond was believed to encourage and make the fighters able to win in relation to the enemy. Calm in gold and left carried, a diamond was also believed to possess the strength driving out nightmares. Some believed that diamonds would 'sweat' in the presence of poison, or even that they would be poison when swallowed. Another faith was that quite fine diamonds could reproduce themselves.

The diamond is April's month stone. As planet stone the diamond belongs to the sun. The tradition to buy a diamond as engagement gift goes 500 years back. In the year 1477 began Maximilian of the Austrian duchy the trend, by presenting to his fiance Maria von Burgundy a simply seized diamond. His councilors gave him the advice to give her a simple ring to carry at the third finger of the left hand (the old Egyptians believed that by this finger walked the 'dear vain' directly to the heart). It must have folded: Maria became his wife and since then begins one of the most romantic traditions those the world knows.
